Sylvia Plester-Silk is a registered social worker who found her true calling in energy work. Prior to starting On Purpose Transformations, Sylvia worked in various roles in the social work sector. Including at a Federal Parole Office, women’s abuse shelters, and addiction treatment centres. In 2004, after the non-renewal of her contract in a social work agency due to funding cuts, Sylvia decided to commit fully to her business. This bold decision led to the establishment of On Purpose Transformations, a practice that emphasizes emotional and body awareness to help clients release patterns that no longer serve them.
Sylvia’s years of experience in social work gave her a deep understanding of human behavior, and this knowledge forms the foundation of her energy work. Her business has continued to grow and evolve, and she is now expanding her reach with a podcast and her new book, Healing is Possible: 10 Things You Need to Know to Heal. Both ventures aim to provide actionable strategies for listeners and readers, particularly women over 50 who are rediscovering themselves after years of prioritizing others.
Sylvia’s journey with the Business Centre began in 2004 when she first participated in its programs to learn how to start and grow her business. When she decided to launch her podcast, she returned to the Business Centre, enrolling in the Starter Company+ Program to refine her ideas and build a solid foundation for her new venture.
Through the program, Sylvia gained clarity on her target audience for the podcast and book. With the guidance of her business advisor, she identified her audience as women over 50 who are ready to focus on their happiness and purpose. Sylvia shared that the 1-on-1 mentorship provided through the program has been invaluable, giving her a sounding board for ideas and insights from someone deeply familiar with entrepreneurship.
Additionally, the program’s workshops helped Sylvia revisit and update aspects of her business strategy to ensure they remain relevant. The Starter Company+ Program has also assisted her in transitioning her podcast idea from the concept phase to the implementation phase, including refining its format and marketing strategy.
Sylvia’s entrepreneurial journey is a testament to her resilience and adaptability. Her unique perspective and non-judgmental approach allow her to help clients address and release patterns that hinder their growth. The mentorship and support she received from the Business Centre have played a pivotal role in her evolution as an entrepreneur.
When asked what advice she would give to herself when she first started her business, Sylvia said, “Believe in your value and share it openly. Don’t be shy to showcase your accomplishments and what you have to offer.”
Sylvia’s key takeaways from the Starter Company+ Program include a deeper understanding of her target market and actionable strategies to launch her podcast successfully. She plans to keep her podcast episodes concise—around 10 minutes—to cater to the busy schedules of her audience. Each episode will provide practical insights and feature guests in a rapid-fire question format, ensuring maximum value in a short time frame.
Sylvia’s unique approach to healing and transformation sets her apart in the wellness space. Her work focuses on helping individuals realize that as they address their internal struggles, their external interactions and relationships can shift positively.
