Business Risk and Global Warming

Managing the Risks associated with climate change

Event Info

It is a rare day when the issue of business planning and climate change is not featured in the media. The business community has known of the risks and opportunities associated with greenhouse gas mitigation as well as actual and planned government policies.

Many businesses have taken steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions voluntarily. Some take into account the impacts of climate change—potential provincial and federal regulations, shareholder perceptions, and changes in consumer and supplier markets, for example—on the cost of doing business now and in the future. Fewer businesses, however, are incorporating the risks and opportunities associated with the physical effects of climate change in their business planning.

As trends in climate policy become clearer businesses need to consider whether to adapt to projected changes by taking action now. This, in turn, involves reacting to and managing risks as well as taking advantage of opportunities.

This course includes conversation around:

Business Adaptation and Response: What are the risks and the opportunities
Pro Active Decisions
Measuring a company’s exposure to climate change liability
Screening for Climate Impacts
Identifying climate change liability
Climate change and the Balance Sheet
Managing the Risks associated with climate change
